Approximately 1000 years ago, a warrior entered the noble Mortal Kombat tournament, a competition for honor and glory. The newcomer won and became the Grand Master; his name was Shang Tsung.

He continued to win and appeared immortal, but in reality was an evil sorcerer trying to weaken Earth´s dimensional gates so his evil master, the warlord Shao Khan, could enter the Earth´s realm. After defeating an opponent, Shang Tsung would steal their souls and enslave them, a process that unbalanced the powers of good and evil and weakened the dimensional gates.

If Tsung continues to win in the now corrupt Mortal Kombat tournament, Earth is doomed to an existence of eternal evil!
